This week I was in Marquette Michigan and took some photos for Nick and Ayden. It seems like it has been quite a while since I have been in Marquette so it was nice to be back. We were lucky that during the weekend the weather was great and we could shoot out on Little Presque beach for a while until the wind became to much.
Little Presque is an amazing place. The pine trees extend over your head with no underbrush. Just after the trees there is plenty of beach grass. We had to bury the legs of the strobe stands in the sand just to keep them from taking off like kites.
It was great to shoot with Nick and Ayden because they are friends of mine and nick is also a wedding photographer in the Marquette area. Nick also just had a new daughter Ava back in February. She wasn't quite ready to join us out on the beach this day however but we still got plenty of great shots and these are just a few.
I wasn't the only one taking pictures that day either. I'm sure pictures of me will be turning up on Nicks Blog any day now.
MartinJAY Digital
8/1/2011
This week I had the chance to do a portrait shoot for MartinJAY Digital a digital development and advertising agency located in Troy Michigan. The people were amazing and the shoot was a blast.
I love working with fellow creatives whenever I can because it always produces amazing results.
Ann Arbor Air Show
7/20/2011
I had the opportunity to shoot at an air show this month. This was a new event for me and was thrilling to say the least. There definitely is something about seeing your nations pilots doing amazing things. The blue angels made their appearance at the finally of course and their precision was amazing. I tried to travel with a light amount of gear this day because it was in the 90s and the sun was pretty strong. Luckily for all the attendees the pilots were amazing and flew low constantly. I was amazed how many shots I was able to walk away with where you can see the pilots faces.
Michigan Heart Gallery
1/15/2011
I did another photo shoot for the Michigan Heart Gallery last week. I was able to help out Edwin get some portraits. Choosing just one photo to put online was a tough choice because of how energetic and funny Edwin is. For more information of the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange or the Michigan Heart Gallery click HERE or view my earlier post below.
The Lights of Rochester Hills
1/5/2011
The lights of Rochester Hills draw in visitors from all over Southeast Michigan. I myself waited for a blizard to come through before heading out to grab some images. Capturing the feel of the whole area being wrapped in a bright glow is difficult but rewarding.
Michigan Heart Gallery
11/6/2010
I did a shoot the other day with Latrina in Rochester Hills for the Michigan Heart Gallery. The Michigan Heart Gallery is a program to match photographers around Michigan with children in the Michigan foster care system. All the portraits are done for free as a volunteer effort to provide the children with great portraits that they can use to meet a new family. It was a bit cold the day of our photo shoot but she was very patient and fantastic to work with.
Here is a great video about the Michigan Heart Gallery from their website. For more information please click the links to go to the MI Heart website.
A little pomegranate
10/17/2010
I'm normally not a supporter of stock photography for editorial purposes because I feel it not only belittles the publication that relies on it but the credibility of the work. When it comes to generic things like fruit, and other overly sterotypical images little harm can be done and stock can be appropriate. So here is a little taste of some pomegranate images I grabbed yesterday while I was taking a break from my regular work. Of course another advantage to this type of shoot is your obligation to enjoy your subject afterward.
Upcoming Bridal Show on 10/17/10
10/7/2010
I will be attending the Plazzo Grande Bridal show at 54660 Van Dyke in Shelby Township on October 17th. It's one of the larger bridal shows in the metro detroit area around this time and should be a lot of fun for both the vendors and the guests. I will be there showcasing a larger collection of my work as well as sample prints and a example of one of my leather bound 11" x 14" photo books that come free with two of my wedding packages. Guests will also have a chance to interact with sample web galleries that come free with all of my packages. I will also be able to hand out copies of my pricing information and walk couples through my process. When it comes to my consumer work my goal is always to provide the highest value possible. I may not be the cheapest offer but I can promise you great value for your day by bringing you not only my experience but top quality press printed products and prints as well.
In related news I have also added a listing on http://wedalert.com. The Owner does a great job of bringing vendors together and delivering resources to couples to make their planning experience easier. My listing can be viewed here http://tiny.cc/yx2qihykxx under Michigan wedding photographers.
Couples Portraits
10/1/2010
I just completed a project for this couple from Indiana. They were great to work with and chose a couples portrait package. It's a great package because not only is it affordable but it only takes a couple of hours.
Shooting on Mackinac Island
9/16/2010
It's a busy time. I have been living and working on Mackinac Island since the beginning of August. I have been doing a lot of projects including this one with Mackinac Island Carriage Tours. I have seen the work these tour guides put in and I can easily say it's one of the most demanding jobs on the island to drive one of these carriages.
Headshots
6/12/2010
I spent about an hour doing a shoot this past week with Des. She is a dancer and model based out of southern Michigan / northern Illinois and needed fresh shots. We were able to exploit the morning light and use some off camera strobes to get these great shots.
